Recipe For Success:
Indian Trail Middle School is a 6 th and 7 th grade school with approximately 1100 students. We are proud of the fact that we focus on student achievement and growth. My staff has set high expectations for themselves as well as for our students. Our goal at Indian Trail is to make connections with students everyday. Relationships are important in everything we do.
In order to be a successful principal, I have surrounded myself with quality people. My teachers are team players and are dedicated to teaching. Hiring and growing effective teachers is crucial to our success. New teachers are assigned a personal mentor and are offered many supports from the administration. Our teachers are grounded in quality staff development that is constant and consistent.
We are a Learning Focused Preferred School recognized for exemplary practices, academic rigor and being pervasive and consistent. Focusing on Steven Coveys’ quote, “All organizations are perfectly designed to get the results they get” we must continually outline our school for success. Embedded within our school climate you will find planning through team-based or small learning communities, prioritizing and mapping of curriculum, effective use of graphic and advanced organizers, instruction of vocabulary in context, and the use of summarizing and extending thinking strategies. We are data driven and analyze data continually and adjust instruction. We have a strong assessment program through system wide benchmarks that help us monitor each student’s performance. We offer after school tutoring opportunities for remediation. Our instructional time is protected and we devote ninety minute blocks to math and language arts.
Communication with parents is also very important to having a successful school. Each teacher has a website with homework assignments, skills being covered and upcoming events. Each student is given a “Student Tracker” or assignment book. This serves as two way communication between school and home.
We are involved in collaboration from the top down, our Director of Schools and the Central Office Supervisors have been committed in providing expertise and support in every possible area.
On behalf on the faculty, staff and students of Indian Trail Middle School, it is an honor to be recognized as a recipient of the Education Consumers Foundation Value-Added Award.
